Initiative Expands Its Target Population

18 – 24 and more is the new slogan for Nevada’s Statewide 18-24 Year Old Credential Initiative.  Further review of 2000 Census data and in view of Nevada’s low unemployment rate and its current demand for skilled workers, the Initiative has expanded its target population to include all Nevadans who lack a high school diploma or GED and are not of retirement age.  Census data reflects 21.7% (66,346) of Nevadans 25-34 years of age, 18.2% (59,819) of those 35 – 44 years of age, and 15.2% (61,692) of those 45 – 64 years of age lack a high school diploma or GED.

For Nevada’s economic development to prosper, it is imperative that our available work force to be adequately educated and trained to fill the employment demand.  Working together, Nevada business community, Economic Development Authorities, Workforce Investment Boards, Chambers of Commerce, Community Colleges and Adult Education programs are busily identifying strategies to meet the challenges at hand and prepare for the future.

GED Study Centers Open

Nevada’s existing Adult High School Diploma and Adult Basic Education programs are operating at near capacity with funding limitations that restrict their ability to expand.  Establishing the GED On line Enrollment Centers will assist in accommodating the additional student influx created by the momentum of Nevada’s Statewide 18-24 and more Initiative’s marketing program.

Five sites – three in the Las Vegas valley and two in Reno/Sparks – are currently ready for business.    The GED On-line program allows a student to study from any location where the Internet is accessible once they’ve enrolled at an Enrollment Center. The schedules of the centers are listed below.  Give yourself the edge; sign up to study for your GED today.  It’s FREE

What to expect at a GED Study Center...
